The Cottage Lane
She walks this way everyday
How odd she’s not yet passed by today
Perhaps a gentleman caller has her thus waylaid?
Still I reason it proper to wait by the lane.
For she smiles so sweetly as she bids me good day
Clearly a lady in everyway
Such an elegant demeanor a tranquil repose
Her soft scented mele delights my nose
Still intrepedation flashes a silent alarm
I hope she has fared well and has taken no harm
Besides, when she passes me by I wish to do good
I stand tall in her notice I trail where she stood
She inspires a thought “I can do better”
A most admirable lady quite altogether
I’ll ask if she’s lonely then come live with me
I’m wanting to ask her, but I’m timid you see.
I make for her cottage concerned by the crowd
Where is she going, why draped in a shroud?
The neighbor’s conversing say “ she died in her sleep,
I liked the ole gal she would smile when we meet”
