Lovers Litany by Michael Garland

The looking glass mirrors my fading nemesis.
His threat has lessened of late.
My heart embraces a more gentile centering.
The old spirit cries out in rage.
The cavalier dance as I shout at the devil
Is left for another's nimble steps,
I pass on the torch to the youth of wild abandon.
Wishing only to live in my true love’s dream
Mine have been abandoned, now wayside trash
But my love…
My love
(Oh how I cherish those words)
She shines as tomorrow’s dawn see how brightly she beams!!
I am caressed by her breath in the midnight hours
As would a thief I steal soft kisses as she slumbers
Awakened, her lips freely offered she wraps me in thousand jewels of love.
So graceful in form a metered beauty
She does a celestial waltz in my heart of hearts.
I’ve felt the focus of a thousand smiles fail to pierce my darkened depths.
But my lover’s gaze illuminates the very core of my soul.
I marvel as the defining past ceases to have definition.
Sustained no longer, my demons wither as her tears cleanse me.
With the eyes of a child she see the good in me and thus I am free.
I no longer question her love or mine.
Empowered by her love I give ten fold thanks with a lover’s litany.
