Star Child
I am a child of a lesser God I know not what I seek
I cast about to Orion's belt but no answer is granted me
Born to toil in the earthen bowels .. Hades was my home
We sought for that which you covet the yellow metal gold
Devotion unquestioned, toil in pain, wretchedly we moan
You came, you took, you saw it was good then left us all alone
The plow, the words, the higher thoughts , not bred to understand
What then care I for higher purpose , Eden is slag heaps and sand
We are a footnote in time, Of little worth no longer in demand
But we children of a lesser God we love, we laugh, we sing.
Crimson baptismal amid cries of rage have tempered our unrest
Your silence deafens, indifference betrays, we fail our latest test
I am a child of a lesser God I see just what you are ..
You think us to crude to share the higher power
Still the children of a lesser God will grow and reach and flower
